On July 21, 1861, world-renowned War correspondent and London Times Reporter William Howard Russell would view the greatest military spectacle of his career. The first to report of the famed “Charge of the Light Brigade” would view perhaps a greater military disaster at Bull Run Creek in Manassas Virginia, a spot where the two great armies of North and South would meet for their first true battle. Russell documented his entire unbelievable experience, writing a view of the Union retreat deemed so scathing, that northern newspapers published disclaimers stating that Russell may not have even been at the battle to discredit his account.
