With the Mexican cavalry detachment sent retreating after the Battle of Gonzales, the Texians prepared for the phase of the war, removing the Centralist troops from Texas. However, just as the dragoons ride out of the vicinity of the rebellious town. General Martin Perfecto de Cos arrives on the Texas coast with a force of 500 men to suppress the rebellion that has risen up in the state. With the arrival of Cos, more men rise to fight back against what they see as a Centralist takeover of the state. San Antonio de Bexar, the regional capital, becomes a vacuum that pulls in the various armed groups in the state. That will result in a month-long siege and a chaotic street-to-street battle for supremacy on the Mexican Frontier.
